RONALDO RETURNS TO OLD TRAFFORD
■ Legendary Portuguese forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to re-join Manchester United, the Premier League club confirmed on Friday.
Ronaldo’s move from Juventus was reportedly said to be towards rival side Manchester City before intervention by the Red Devils in about 12 hours’ time.
The Balloon d’Or winner left Manchester United for Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, for a then-world-record fee of $110 million.
He spent the last three seasons at Serie A side Juventus, where he scored 101 goals in 134 games (all competitions) and won two Serie A titles and one Italian Cup.
Ronaldo was pictured touching down in Lisbon where he will soon be undertaking a medical to seal a sensational return to his former club Manchester United.
With a surge of fans and photographers eager to get a glimpse of Ronaldo at the airport, the Portuguese superstar had given a cryptic clue while getting into a car and told broadcasters TVI24 when asked of his next club: “You’ll know in one hour.”
Not long after, United informed supporters via social media and their official website that a deal had been agreed and Ronaldo would be returning to the club ahead of transfer deadline day.
Reports in Italy suggest Manchester United will pay Juventus the £21.4million fee they wanted from City, with a two-year contract on the table for the 36-year-old of around £480,000 per week.●
