REPORT sent to SUNBIGHT MEDIA stated that Nigerian soldiers arrested and brutalised youths from Ikom area of Cross River state for rejecting open grazing by Fulani herdsmen in their community.
According to the community’s youth leader, the Fulani herdsmen have continually allowed their cattle to destroy farmlands especially those due for harvesting.
He also stated that any confrontation by the farmers against the destruction of their farmlands has always resulted in attacks by the Fulani herdsmen.
With tension rising, the youths decided to drive out the Fulani herdsmen and their cattle out of the community.
Without seeking to address the atrocities of the herdsmen, the Nigerian Army invaded the community, arrested several youths and severely tortured them before releasing them.
The youths were warned by the soldiers not to go against whatever activities of the Fulani Herdsmen in Ikom community.
As at the time of publishing this report, the Nigerian army authority is yet to respond to the actions of the soldiers.♧
